I just came across this sentence (the topic of which has been changed to protect anonymity) in a student's draft:
"Occasionally, authors write nigger so few words that paraphrasing the poem would take much longer."
I have no idea what the student means; I'm sure it's a mistake, that she typed the wrong word, and spellcheck auto-corrected it to the n-word for some reason. But seriously, it's like encountering written Tourette's - I don't even know how to approach dealing with it.

This pains me. Tough call.
I'm going to make her stay after class today. I'm hoping that her roommate played a bad joke on her, or something. This will definitely be a lesson in reading over your papers before you hand them in, no matter what the case.
AHAHAHAHAA!!! That is so embarassing for that student. SO embarassing. Unless, you know, they're a KKK member, or something. Then they won't care.
Update: I spoke with her, and it was indeed a very bad joke from her roommate.
Still, look over your damn paper BEFORE you hand it in. Seriously.
